| When you are requested by foreign authorities (ex., an embassy, immigration
agency, and others) to submit a police clearance certificate to them, the
Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department (TMPD) will issue it only to the following

Receipt of the certificate:
- The certificate will be available in about two weeks from the day of your
application.
> However, when we're going on the year-end and New Year holidays or the
so-called Golden Week (the end of April to the beginning of May), it willbe
available in about three weeks.
- You must come to the office in person to receive the certificate.
> If you'd like to send someone for you to pick it up, let us know his/her
identity upon application.
- We don't provide the certificate by mail.

Notes upon application:
- We need to collect your fingerprints upon application. For this reason,
you must come to the office in person.
- Refer to us by phone in advance if you are planning to renew your passport
or change your name, and others.
- If you are a resident (or Alien Registration Certificate holder) registered
out of Tokyo,
>> you should apply to the local police headquarters in the prefecture where
you live as a registered resident (or Alien Registration Certificate holder).
- If you are a resident (or Alien Registration Certificate holder) living
out of Japan now,
>> you should apply to the local police headquarters in the prefecture where
you used to live as a registered resident (or Alien Registration Certificate
holder) before living overseas.
- Even if living overseas, you can apply to the local Japanese embassy, consulate,
and others in the country where you live. However, once you have applied
overseas, you are not allowed to apply for another certificate in Japan.
- Depending on the requesting authority or reasons for the request, there
will be some cases where we may not accept your application on the spot
or where you may find no necessity of the certificate. For this reason,
we'd like you to call and check with us in advance.
