SECURITY SERVICE HELP MAKE THE OCCASION SAFE AND ENJOYABLE

Crowd control in Shibuya, Tokyo

Events during the New Year's holidays, firework displays and other festivals draw a large number of people, and the mass psychology inherent to the street crowd can turn these events into disorder and endanger many lives. The MPD officers maintain close contacts with the event organizers and managing staff and conduct crowd management in order to help people fully enjoy the occasions.
Another work of the Security Police is to protect the dignitaries of Japan and from abroad. The Security Police (SP) officers of the MPD carry out these jobs with full responsibility. They are not allowed to make a single mistake and would use their own lives to shield dignitaries. It is no surprise that they go through extremely tough training, and they receive high recognition and confidence for their performance from all over the world.

One of the most important duties is protecting lives in the wake of natural disasters, such as earthquakes, typhoons, and fires, and other major accidents. The MPD's Mobile Rescue Unit and Water Rescue Unit are specialized in rescue operations at disaster areas and accident scenes. Popularly known as the Rescue 110, these units are fully equipped and composed of officers specialized in rescue techniques.
