Let's Get Rid of Drinking and Driving!

Never allow yourself or anybody else to drive after drinking.

Never drive after drinking even a drop.
Never provide a vehicle to anybody who has drunk.
Never serve or offer alcohol to anybody who would drive afterward.
Never allow anybody having drunk to drive a vehicle or to drive you anywhere.

There is still no end to the traffic accidents caused by drinking and driving. Alcohol taken in your body will impair your physical capabilities and senses before your driving performance would be seriously influenced. So remind yourself of the dangers of drinking and driving which would lead to a serious or fatal accident.

Driving while intoxicated

The Driver and a person who provided the Driver with a vehicle shall be subject to:
Imprisonment with mandatory labor not exceeding five years or a fine not exceeding 1,000,000yen
A person who provided the Driver with alcohol and a person who was riding as a passenger in a vehicle operated by the Driver shall be subject to:
Imprisonment with mandatory labor not exceeding three years or a fine not exceeding 500,000yen

Driving under the influence

The Driver and a person who provided the Driver with a vehicle
shall be subject to:
Imprisonment with mandatory labor not exceeding three years or a fine not exceeding 500,000yen
A person who provided the Driver with alcohol and a person who was riding as a passenger in a vehicle operated by the Driver shall be subject to:
Imprisonment with mandatory labor not exceeding two years or a fine not exceeding 300,000yen

Dangerous driving causing death or bodily injury

The charge of reckless driving causing death or bodily injury shall be applied to a person who drove after drinking or operated a vehicle willfully in a dangerous or culpable manner and thereby caused the death or injury of another, where a maximum jail term of 20 years may be imposed.
